OLD-FASHIONED WILLIAMSBURG GINGERBREAD COOKIES

1 bite from these biscuits brings back a lot of memories from my youth! At Williamsburg, I have spent quite a bit as a Virginian, and it is one of my preferred pieces of our nation.




Besides the spirit, the music, along with the Christmas decorations, I remember looking ahead to the gingerbread biscuits from the Raleigh Tavern Bakery and the Cream of Peanut Soup in the King's Arms Tavern. Oh, that gingerbread is a treat!

Have a step back in time using a holiday treat! These very simple and tasty Old-Fashioned Williamsburg Gingerbread Cookies are adored for centuries -- and you will discover why!

ingredients

  1. 2 tsp ginger
  2. 1 tsp nutmeg
  3. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  4. 1 teaspoon salt
  5. 1 cup molasses
  6. 4 cups sifted

Directions

  1. Spray cookie sheets with parchment. Put aside.
  2. Add ginger, sugar, peppermint, cinnamon, salt, and baking soda in a bowl that is large. Mix on low speed until blended.
  3. Add evaporated milk, softened butter, and molasses. Mix blended, the liquid does not splash from the bowl, beginning on the rate. Gradually increase the speed until the butter and sugar are creamed together and smooth.
  4. Place back and add the flour 1 cup at a time, stirring until the flour is incorporated.
  5. The dough ought to be stiff enough sticking with your fingers to manage if it's still sticky and soft, add around 1/2 cup flour.
  6. After the dough is smooth, roll it out -inch depth on a surface that is really well-floured. Use a round biscuit cutter or a cookie cutter to cut on the gingerbread. I used a round biscuit cutter.
  7. Put shapes on prepared baking sheets. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden.
